Malawi’s Mzuzu Student wins first UEFA semifinal ticket

Kondwani Kumwenda, a student at Malawi’s Mzuzu University emerged a first lucky winner in the ongoing Carlsberg UEFA promotion.

At draw conducted by former Malawi Big Brother representative Code Sangala and 101 power Fm presenter Jean, the 24 year old got his lucky to watch the semi-finals in Poland.

Five mobile phone numbers were drawn for football jerseys, footballs, and cooler bags, and thereafter two other winners were drawn, one for the HD Decoder and the HD TV prize and then finally grand prize, which was won by Kondwani Kumwenda a student at Mzuzu University.

The student’s elation was clear as the presenters telephoned him to tell him the good news- that he would be going to Warsaw Poland to watch the semifinals enjoying Carlsberg hospitality all the way.

“I am very happy because I never expected something like this to happen in my life. In fact I’m over excited about going to Poland for the Semi Finals.” Kumwenda said in a separate interview.

Commenting on the promotion, he said that his advice would be for people to enter this promotion because they never know what might happen- they may just get as lucky as him and win a fantastic prize.

Meanwhile, the excitement continues on the market as the Carlsberg Fun truck goes round bringing music and activities across Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu. Consumers have a chance to enjoy Euro fun and win branded novelties such as caps with bottle openers, football, cooler bags, Euro T-Shirts and shorts and lots more.

“Carlsberg is the official beer of Euro 2012 and so we had to do something spectacular to bring the excitement that comes with the UEFA games to consumers here in Malawi.” Chirwa said commenting on the activities.

On the issue of fun, the Chirwa says, the promotion is open only to those persons over the age of 18. “At Carlsberg we’re all about doing the right thing as so, we want our consumers to enjoy Carlsberg and enjoy their football, and at the same time, to enjoy responsibly”.

For consumers to participate in the promotion, all they have to do is buy any of Carlsberg beers, green stout and classic, SMS the unique code found on the voucher received on purchase to 4040 for TNM and 54040 for Airtel users.

Carlsberg appointed former Denmark international Schmeichel, who was voted “World´s Best Goalkeeper” in 1992 and 1993, in its bid to finalize its own dream team to help activate sponsorship for the European football festival to be jointly organized by Poland and Ukraine from June 8 to July 1 later this year.

As an ambassador for Carlsberg Group, Schmeichel will be actively involved in many aspects of the Group´s activation program, including engaging with fans through the Carlsberg Facebook campaign, the Fan Challenge that will give fans a chance to be at Euro 2012 and ultimately present the Carlsberg Man of the Match Award in the final.
