Over the years matches between Liberia and Ghana has been much credence as it brings memories of old arc rivalry. The match was official launching of the soon to be Annual President’s Cup between Liberia and other African countries national in Liberia by MOnAc Consult Inc ,as to kick of the friendly at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex yesterday, Youth and Sports Minister Tornolah Varpilah and the LFA President ,Musa Bility among others .The Launch sets the tune for the friendly international clash between the Lone Star and the Black Stars of Ghana at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on September 11.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Varpilah said the international friendly was born out of a recent visit he made through Ghana where he held discussions with his Ghanaian counterpart in Accra. He said the concept of sports development is a significant principle that could pay the way for the development of the country’s youths.He said the idea was accepted by his Ghanaian counterpart who eventually decided to use a private organization, MonAc Consult Incorporated to bring the Black Stars for a friendly match.
Ghana Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah, consultant of MonAc Consult Inc, Ghana 2008 Nations Cup and Chief Operating Officer of Rsaid the Black Stars are coming to Liberia well prepared to give soccer fans their monies worth. When pressed to reveal some of the big time players coming for the friendly, he remained evasive but said the Black Stars are coming not for a joke. He said: “The team that is coming for the friendly will be the same team to prepare against Malawi.”
The friendly international, named The President’s Cup is to honor the president of Liberia and will be no cost to the country, and may be an annual affair between the two countries if current discussions with his counterpart in Ghana are fruitful.He said the friendly match will bring Ghana and Liberia closer to ensure that sports as a development tool can benefit both countries. Contributing, LFA president Musa Bility expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the arrangement and revealed that the LFA would receive an undisclosed amount as appearance fee, for making the national team available for the match.
Liberianentertainment.com/sports in an exclusive interview was hinted by Mr. Danquah, that there more to come from his outfit for Liberians and the sporting industry, as his outfit have lined-up many event in the areas of sports marketing , sporting event . Liberia will play against Malawi in an international friendly and clash with the Black Stars. The official encounter is against the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The Malawians will transit in Liberia for two days on their way to Accra, Ghana to meet the Black Stars.Meanwhile President Bility said 14 Liberian professional soccer players have been invited and air tickets sent. He said a couple of the players are already in Liberia and training with the team.
At the end of the friendly against the Black Stars, awards would be presented to the highest player, the most valuable, among others.
Meanwhile, the invited Lone Star players already arrive in Liberia include Theo Weeks, Sekou Jabateh, Omega Richards Ansu Toure, Solo Grimes, Jimmy Dixon, Zack Kranger, Koko Lomell, Boakai Foday and Junior Wilson.
