Exclusive round-table for access to DRC’s oil and gas sector

From 29-30 January 2013, a critical forum for investment and development of the DRC’s hydrocarbons sector will take place at the Memling Hotel in Kinshasa.  Hosted by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the iPAD (Infrastructure Partnerships for African Development) Oil and Gas forum will provide not only comprehensive updates around oil and gas exploration in this massive country, but also, it will enable direct interaction between government, policy-makers, experts, investors and business people involved in the entire oil sector value chain.

An established institution in the DRC

‘The iPAD series is an established institution in the DRC’, says the Event Director of the Forum, Nicole Smith. ‘Since 2005, the annual iPAD conference in Kinshasa has brought high-level decision makers from the public and private sector together to address vital aspects around the industrialization of Congo.  There has been a distinct focus on the mining sector, traditionally being the backbone of the DRC’s economy.  However, over the last three years it has become evident that we need to look at this sector that is the next frontier in the DRC’s extractive industries.’

Minister of Hydrocarbons to open the forum

Hydrocarbons Minister, Crispin Atama Tabe will address the forum and key experts from the administration will be in attendance over the two days in order to address questions raised by attendees.  Top of the agenda would be how the DRC aims to create a favorable environment for investment into the upstream sector.  Questions around the future for oil exploration and production in the DRC will be addressed and the legal and regulatory frameworks will be outlined.  Concerns around transparency with regards to the tendering of oil blocs as well as questions around sustainable development, the environment and building local capacity are on the agenda.

Business of the downstream petroleum sector

As the DRC ramps up to boost its industrial sector, the downstream petroleum industry will also play a key role. The Forum will address issues around pricing, infrastructure and trends in the downstream space.  Transportation and storage will also be looked at.

The iPAD Petrol and Gas forum takes place from 29-30 January 2013 at the Memling Hotel.  Sponsored by Soco International (Platinum), CAC International, Dig Oil, Orion Oil (Gold) and Fugro and Oil of DRCongo (Bronze).
