40 referral hospitals to be built and equipped with modern equipment in DR Congo by 2016


The kick off for modernization of the health sector in DR Congo is set to start in the course of 2013 with the inauguration of the Jubilee hospital planned in the second half of January 2013 stated His Excellency Mr. Felix Kabange Numbi, Minister of Public Health. Built on an area of 40,000 m², the hospital has 450 beds. Considered the largest of its kind in Central Africa, the hospital will be in position to achieve 2000-3000 outpatients per day and perform 3000 medical intervention per year.
The objectives to be achieved in the field of public health in five-year action program up to 2016, the Government of DR Congo is to build 40 referral hospitals and equip them with modern equipment.

While efforts should be undertaken to address the development of infrastructure and lack of equipment facing the Congolese medical sector; the system lags behind the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies that are nevertheless useful for improving the quality of care.
