The 10 children from around the world who participated in the Samsung-Chelsea FC Dream The Blues programme, wrapped their visit up with training matches against a foundation team at the Cobham Chelsea Training Centre yesterday.
On a day that saw them meet stars Fernando Torres, Juan Mata, Oscar and Victor Moses, who are the ambassadors of the programme, the young players outplayed their Chelsea peers in short six- and seven-a-side matches.
The two South Africans Goitsemang Lengene and Mvelo Mvulane were quite impressive in the first six-a-side match they took part in and won 4-1. Lengene scored a brace with his well-cultured left foot, while Mvulane made several assists, at one stage being thwarted by the goalkeeper after slicing through a set of defenders like a hot knife through butter.
An emotional Steve Winnett, one of the coaches at the centre, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves these past few days. It has been a real pleasure coaching you guys.”
The players will wrap up their visit by watching Chelsea play their last 2012/13 Barclays Premiership match against Everton at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
Today, they will have a tour of the city that includes a ride on the London Eye as well as a chance to watch the famous musical The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre.
