Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund believes the team he has selected for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers is the best available team.
Igesund was robbed of his first-choice players because of an assortment of injuries for crucial games against Central African Republic (CAR) and Ethiopia next month.
The team will have to do without key defenders Morgan Gould and Thabo Matlaba, who both played well against the CAR in March. Also out injured are Siyabonga Sangweni and Dino Ndlovu.
But Igesund was positive that the selected players would do the job.
He was also pleased that the game against the CAR would be played at a neutral venue in Cameroon owing to ongoing political instability in the CAR.
Igesund has selected eight players from newly crowned league champions Chiefs.
“They have been doing well and all of them deserve to be in the team, but obviously not all of them would play at the same time. I had to juggle the team around due to injuries, but this is the nature of the game,” said Igesund.
Once again, Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune will lead the team in the two games.
Igesund said he had gone for an offensive team as he did not want to play a defensive game.
“Against CAR we will play as if we are playing at home, attacking them all the way. Fortunately we know what to expect and the report I got from Cameroon is that the pitch is in good condition and will suit our type of play.”
Igesund was, however, worried about the conditions in Addis Ababa.
“The Ethiopia game is the most crucial of the two matches, as we need to topple them from the top of the group. But the conditions there are not conducive for our style of play.”
Igesund said they would remain in Cameroon after the CAR game and only fly to Ethiopia a day before the game.
