In July 2014 the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. The South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) would like to invite the entire continent to be part of this special event.
“It is the first time this annual international mathematics competition will be held on the continent,” says Prof Johann Engelbrecht, Executive Director of SAMF. “We expect more than 600 contestants from about 100 countries to visit Africa for this, the 56th IMO.”
The Advisory Board of the International Mathematical Olympiad has agreed that South Africa may invite African countries to the IMO in South Africa, without sending an Observer first, if they have taken part in the Pan African Mathematics Olympiad. With the upcoming Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) to be held in Nigeria from 23 June to 2 July, all African countries are called upon to participate in the 2013 PAMO as this will stand as good preparatory steps to participate in the 2014 IMO.
Countries that would like to send their learners to South Africa to take part in the IMO2014 should contact Ellie Olivier on firstname.lastname@example.org or visit their website at www.imo2014.org.za.
