Bafana Bafana will take on Lesotho on Sunday without three of their overseas stars.
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund today revealed Sweden-based Tokelo Rantie, May Mahlangu and Siyanda Xulu, who plies his trade in Russia, will not be part of Sunday’s friendly game in Maseru.
Igesund said Xulu would only join the team in Cameroon next week, while both Rantie and Mahlangu would join the camp on Monday.
Bafana came through their first training session this morning full of confidence and Igesund said he was impressed by the determination showed by the players.
Although he said the players showed signs of tiredness, the coach said this was expected after the long PSL season.
He, however, said the players had promised to give their all in the coming 2014 World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic in Cameroon next weekend and Ethiopia a week later.
The game against CAR will be played at a neutral venue in Yaounde because of political instability in CAR.
Gordon said he would use Sunday’s game against Likoena of Lesotho to try different defensive combinations after injuries left him without his regular defenders.
“Today was our first training and we tried to get our defenders together so we can have the best combination. We might not get it against Lesotho but we will have another chance of working on it during the week,” said Igesund.
He said he was confident the players would rise to the occasion.
“This game against Lesotho could not have come at the right time as it would give us an idea of what to expect in Cameroon and Ethiopia. We will be playing away from home in front of hostile supporters and this is what we need before we go to Cameroon.”
He said winning Sunday’s game would boost their confidence ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifiers.
