Kenya: 1,061 Striking County Workers Fired – Joho

[The Star]Some 1,061 workers at the Mombasa county government who took part in a strike have been sacked. Governor Hassan Joho yesterday said they absconded duty and took part in littering of the city, an offense in the Mombasa county bylaws. Joho and Kenya County Workers Union Mombasa branch chairman Suleiman Mohamed said the union did not call for the strike. Those who took part in littering the streets will be prosecuted.
