Hospital managers in Gauteng will soon have the power to solve basic problems in their facilities like drugs being out of stock.
They’ll be able to buy medical supplies and equipment without having to wait for approval from head office.
This is being done as part of an operational plan that seeks to enhance the implementation of the turnaround strategy aimed at fixing Gauteng’s ailing health system.
Twenty hospitals, including central, tertiary, regional and specialist hospitals, are expected to benefit from this plan.
Said Health MEC Hope Papo: “If we can have things running smoothly in the 20 hospitals, we sort out the difficulties in district hospitals and primary healthcare centres.”
