Gauteng Economic Development MEC Nkosiphedule Kolisile and two bodyguards were killed in an accident in the Free State, the ANC has said.
The accident happened on the N6 in Reddersburg, the ANC in Gauteng said today in a statement.
Kolisile (40) was on his way to a funeral in the Eastern Cape.
“The ANC Gauteng sends its deepest condolences to families, relatives and comrades,” the party said.
“This is a tragedy of great proportion and the police are still investigating the details of what caused the accident.”
The ANC said it had lost a “great and selfless” leader.
The DA in Gauteng and the Young Communist League of SA (YCLSA) expressed shock at the news of Kolisile’s death.
The DA described Kolisile as a great addition to the provincial cabinet following a reshuffle last year.
“[He] had a sterling record in the Gauteng provincial legislature,” DA provincial spokesperson Marius Redelinghuys said in a statement.
Kolisile was a former YCLSA national committee member and former chairperson of the SA Communist Party in Gauteng.
YCLSA spokesperson Khaya Xaba said: “As the YCLSA we send our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.”
