Gauteng Economic Development MEC Nkosiphendule Kolisile was killed in a head-on collision with a truck, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has said.

“We were told the MEC’s vehicle was making way for an ambulance, when they went into on coming traffic and collided with a truck,” an emotional Mokonyane told reporters in Johannesburg.

“They died on the scene. The ambulance never stopped.”

Two bodyguards, identified as Constable Tshepo Jobo and Sergeant Tebogo Motsei, were in the car with Kolisile.

Mokonyane said their families had been informed.

A delegation from the Gauteng executive council paid a visit to Kolisile’s wife today.

“We will be taking the family and relatives to identify the body,” she said.

Mokonyane said Kolisile would be given a provincial official funeral though no date was confirmed.
