A police constable has been arrested in Worcester for allegedly raping a woman in his official car.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesman Moses Dlamini said today the 28-year-old policeman confronted the woman for alleged riotous behaviour on Saturday, while he was on duty.

He parked his police car behind a school, before allegedly threatening her with his service firearm and raping her in the vehicle. The woman opened a case and the constable was arrested the same day.

He was expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court today.

Dlamini said a 46-year-old police captain would appear in the same court today, also for allegedly raping a woman. She alleged she was raped on June 20 in the captain’s official car and that he threatened to shoot her and her son if she reported him.

The captain was arrested on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a Randburg police constable is expected to appear in court tomorrow on charges of rape, robbery and kidnapping.

“These alleged crimes were committed between 2011 and 2012, in and around Tembisa, Olifantsfontein, Ivory Park, Randburg and other areas,” Dlamini said today.

“The case was investigated by the Ipid and has resulted in it making recommendations to prosecute to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP has agreed and decided to prosecute.”

The 30-year-old constable faces 14 counts of rape, nine of robbery and 14 of kidnapping.

“The suspect has been in custody since he was arrested in July 2012. He applied unsuccessfully for bail on numerous occasions,” he said.
