Nigeria FG approves N10b for cassava bread fund

Ahead of calls from prominent Nigerians for Nigeria to explore economic development of what it has, President Jonathan has approved N10B (Ten Billion Naira) as cassava bread fund for Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

An elated Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina announced this 23rd July, at a meeting in which he asked Directors and value chain leaders to give account of their stewardships in the last one year.

The Minister also announced that President Goodluck Jonathan has also agreed to launch NAGROPRENEUERS (Youth employment programme (YEAP) who will be involved in the programme of creating employment through Agricultural Value Chains).

Adesina commended his staff for exceeding the targets set for them and advised them to work to exceed key performance indicators (KPI) for 2013.

To this, “You must streamline processes and reduce transaction cost with strict budgetary provision.  As desk officers, we must work to reduce cost.  There are rules in soccer, but you must score within 90 minutes”; he charged.

He conveyed the President’s appreciation of the entire Federal Ministry of Agriculture’s work force and informed them that the N10B approval was a way of encouraging them to work hard to feed the nation.

Adesina told the staff, that “The dream of being self-sufficient in food production is a task the Ministry must accomplish; no excuses.”

We must meet our rice needs by 2015 and reduce to the barest minimum, our food imports.  Nigeria must remain big in size, in population, food sufficiency and manpower.
