A woman who claimed she had been raped by Zwelinzima Vavi has withdrawn her “grievance”, the Cosatu general secretary has tweeted.
Vavi said today the woman withdrew the claim just two hours into an internal disciplinary hearing.
“Thanks to so many who supported my family,” Vavi tweeted.
He later tweeted: “I won’t do interviews on the statement – tired – spending afternoon with my family.”
Vavi has admitted to having sex with the woman, who was employed by Cosatu, and claimed she later tried to extort R2m from him. He denied raping her, and said the sex was consensual.
However, she brought a complaint of sexual harassment against him. The woman said earlier today that she was not in a position to talk about the hearing.
“I am not going to talk about it [the hearing] for now, I cannot answer any of your questions,” she said.
