Women, Children and People with Disabilities Minister Lulu Xingwana has been told to improve the working conditions at her department’s head office in Pretoria.
Dirty carpets, insect infestations and other findings were cited in a report by the parliamentary portfolio committee for women, children and people with disabilities, which inspected the premises in March, Beeld reported today.
In the report, which was tabled in Parliament yesterday, the committee reportedly said bathroom facilities in the building were unusable because some toilets and lights had been broken for nearly a year.
Beeld reported that Xingwana was already under fire for overseas trips costing millions, allegedly financed with money shifted from core projects.
She had also reportedly been criticised for spending more than R2 million on luxury furniture for her own office.
