As part of activities to commemorate Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s reign as King of Buganda, MTN Uganda has commissioned Internet connectivity at the Kabaka’s Palace in Lubiri-Mmengo.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting to hand over the connected lounge to Kingdom officials led by the newly appointed Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga, MTN Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Ernst Fonternel, noted that MTN’s Internet connectivity offering to our beloved King further demonstrates our commitment to lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world to our customers in Buganda and indeed Uganda.
The relationship between MTN and the Buganda kingdom dates back to 1998 when our brand was first launched. Today we are the No.1 Brand in Uganda across all industries and MTN’s phenomenal growth continues to be driven by our investment into extensive coverage coupled by superior quality on Voice and Data, while offering innovative Value Added Services and putting customers first. “We are appreciative that MTN’s investment and ICT development efforts are also complemented by the Kabaka’s own development agenda for his people.” added Mr. Fonternel.
MTN will deliver world-class Internet connectivity to the Kabaka’s office lounge, which will further enhance the Kabaka’s drive to foster economic and social progress for his people.
MTN Uganda continues to invest significantly into our infrastructure to offer world-class services to our customers and during 2013 will be investing $70 million. One of the top priorities is the focus on the penetration of Internet and digital usage in the day to day lives of Ugandans.
In 2013 alone, MTN Uganda has upgraded its Internet capacity from 21.6Mbps to 42Mbps and became the first telecommunications company in Uganda and the region to launch a superfast 4G LTE Network which provides speeds of up to 100Mbps.
“MTN’s continuous investment clearly demonstrates our commitment to Uganda as we continue to provide world-class services relevant to Uganda’s current and future ICT development needs. MTN has a clear vision for the future to make our customers’ lives a whole lot brighter.” concluded Fonternel.
On his part, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga, praised MTN for its continued support to the establishment and its people. He encouraged the company to continue working with the kingdom so that together they provide solutions that will drive the people of Buganda and Uganda into a brighter and more prosperous future.
