The Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (Atcon) has urged the government to create easy access to the Universal Service Fund (USPF) to facilitate smooth operations of telecom companies in their move towards aggressive infrastructure roll out.
At the roundtable discussion, this morning, on how broadband can be easily deployed to the hinterland, participants agreed that the business prospects that may be attained with the availability of fund could be huge.
Right of way and multiple taxation were identified as major bottlenecks militating against effective broadband deployment and accessibility. However, stakeholders at the event advocated that government should grant tax incentives to telecom operators in their operations in order to reduce operational cost which could later advance the information and communications technology industry.
