“Two people were found dead inside the building. Four were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, one of them died on the way to hospital,” said city’s emergency services spokesperson, Nana Radebe, today.

She said the fire broke out on the seventh floor at a block of flats on the corner of Jeppe and Nugget streets around 4.30am.

“There are five fire engines with close to 20 firefighters, they have put the fire out and are searching for more people inside the building.”
