South Africa’s Rosina Sedibane Sport School were pitted against host Manchester United and Real Madrid during the draw of the Manchester United Premier Cup world finals last night.
The Atteridgeville-based academy will kick off their campaign in Group A against Ulsan Hyundai from Korea this morning at 10.30am SA time.
Rosina coach Reginald Paterson said they were looking forward to the experience of being among the 20 clubs from six confederations taking part in the tournament.
San Luis de Quillota from Chile also makes up the group.
Said Paterson: “We are nervous because it is our first time here. It will be a great experience for us all in the end.”
Team captain Brian Tshoba said: “We hope to go through and leave an impression in the tournament. This is the kind of a draw we were hoping for because we can only get better by playing against tough opponents.”
Man United midfielder Tom Cleverley was the guest at the draw conducted by club legends Brian Robson and Denis Law.
Cleverley, who featured in the 2004 edition of this tournament, advised players to “go out there and enjoy the experience”.
The U-15 championships will take place at United’s training complex in Carrington with the added incentive of playing in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial game at Old Trafford on Friday.
