Residents of Tlokwe in North West have an opportunity to ensure an ANC victory at the by-elections set to take place today, the party said.
“Today’s by-elections are yet another opportunity for the people of the North West province to ensure an overwhelming victory for the ANC,” spokesperson Kenny Morolong said in a statement.
“An ANC victory will enable the ANC-led government to continue to deliver services to the people of North West,” he said.
The by-election came as a result of the unseating of ANC mayor Maphetle Maphetle.
He was unseated twice when ANC councillors voted with the opposition to replace him with the DA’s Annette Combrink, first in November, and again last month.
The ANC’s provincial disciplinary committee expelled the 14 councillors concerned, resulting in them losing their seats.
By-elections will be held in Ward Nine in Tlokwe and in another eight wards in the province.
The Tlokwe ward will be contested by the ANC, the DA, the Congress of the People, the African People’s Convention, and an independent candidate.
