All of Afro-jazz songbird Lira’s music awards have been stolen from her Randburg home.
Lira was performing at a Women’s Day gig at Joburg’s Thaba Ya ba Tswana hotel last night when thieves broke into the home she shares with her husband, Robin Kohl.
Her spokesperson, Mokibelo Magome, said Lira left home at 4pm yesterday for her gig.
She and Kohl then went to visit friends – and when they returned home at midnight, they caught the thieves red-handed.
Magome said Lira spotted the thieves as the couple arrived home and immediately called neighbourhood security guards and the police.
The burglars then escaped through a neighbouring property.
“They stole her furniture, music equipment and all her music awards she won at different award events. She is so upset about the incident but she is also happy at the same time that no one has been injured,” said Magome.
Lira, who was set to perform with R Kelly in Durban tonight, has laid a charge of housebreaking and theft at the Randburg police station.
