Wits beat Bloemfontein Celtic 3-0 in their MTN8 Cup match at Bidvest Stadium.

Wits last night took the lead with a pair of first half goals within two minutes of each other, with Sibusiso Vilakazi and Getaneh Kebede scoring for a 2-0 lead after 23 minutes.

However, Keamogetswe Wolff received two yellow cards in the space of three minutes on the hour mark, condemning his team to a nervy final third of the match.

In injury time Papy Faty caught Celtic on the break, eased his way into the box and slotted home to seal the 3-0 win for Wits.

Earlier, Wits’ Getaneh Kebede had the first shot on goal in the third minute after a cross into the box was not cleared by the Celtic defence.

His effort from the edge of the area did not dip enough to trouble Celtic keeper Patrick Tignyemb.

In the 13th minute, Faty put the ball in the back of the net for Wits, but the goal was disallowed as he was ruled offside.

The home side took the lead in the 21st minute as Vilakazi snapped up a rebound and found the back of the net after Tignyemb blocked a long-range shot.

Two minutes later, Ryan Chapman went on a run down the right-hand side, and found Faty on the edge of the area. Faty then worked the inside pass for Kebede for a close-range shot to make it 2-0 to Wits.

Chapman received the ball on the edge of the area from a flowing Wits attack in the 31st minute, and his turn-and-shoot went narrowly over the crossbar.

In the 41st minute, a strong shot from Matthew Pattison from the edge of the box needed close attention from Tignyemb to save the attempt.

Chapman was close to making it a three goal cushion for his side a minute before the break as he beat Tignyemb, only to see his shot cleared off the line by a scrambling Celtic defender.

Vuyani Ntanga was close to grabbing a goal for Celtic in the 52nd minute, but his shot from close range was centimetres wide.

Wolff was sent off as he received his second yellow card.

Despite being a man down, Wits wrapped up the victory when Faty found the back of the net for a convincing win.
