iPhone 5S May Have A Sapphire-covered Convex Home Button Fingerprint Sensor

We’re less than a month away from the rumored announcement of the next iPhone, and MacRumors reports that “KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo… has issued a new research note indicating that the iPhone 5S may include a sapphire-covered convex home button housing a fingerprint sensor.” The sapphire part is important here, because one of the problems that tech companies have had with integrating fingerprint sensors into products is that the surfaces of the sensors themselves tend to deteriorate over time from all the finger traffic, rendering them them unreliable and even useless. Surely would not build an identity feature and a trust platform (that could eventually include mobile payments) on top of such a fragile technology.
