ZIMBABWEANS must respect and cherish the lives of the committed and dedicated cadres who volunteered to sacrifice their lives to free the country from colonial bondage, an army official has said.Addressing mourners at the burial of the late Colonel Raymond Kwenda (Retired) last week, Major General Trust Mugoba said Zimbabweans must relentlessly defend what the gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe stood and fought for.
Col Kwenda (Rtd), who was declared liberation war hero, succumbed to pneumonia at Muonde Hospital in Driefontein recently.
“We must not forget the sacrifice that Rtd Col Kwenda and other liberation war heroes made in liberating our country,” Maj-Gen Mugoba.
“We must, therefore, defend what these gallant sons and daughters of the soil stood and fought for. We must also defend Zimbabwe’s independence and sovereignty at all cost.”
Maj-Gen Mugoba said Zanu-PF had defended what the freedom fighters stood for by implementing people-oriented programmes.
He applauded the revolutionary party for initiating land reform in a bid to empower Zimbabwean natives who had been disadvantaged by colonial injustices.
