Tony Yengeni arrested: report

Cape Town — ANC national executive committee member Tony Yengeni reportedly spent Sunday night in police cells after being arrested, apparently for drunken driving. Die Burger reported yesterday that Yengeni was arrested at 18:00 on Sunday in Cape Town. He was driving a Maserati. He was seen leaving the police station yesterday morning after being released on bail of R500.

A police spokesperson confirmed this to Die Burger. “Yes, you can say so,” he said in response to a question about whether it was indeed Yengeni, and whether he had been arrested for drunken driving.

Yengeni was also arrested for drunken driving in Goodwood, Cape Town in November 2007.
Yengeni is currently the ANC’s head of political education. He was found guilty of fraud relating to the arms deal and released on parole in 2007 after serving four months of his four year sentence. — Sapa
