Morocco busts Qaeda-linked ‘terrorist’ cell

RABAT, Aug 16, 2013 (AFP)

Morocco has dismantled a “terrorist” cell whose members had ties with leaders of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and plotted attacks, the interior ministry said on Friday.

Four suspects were arrested when authorities “dismantled a terrorist cell,” it said in a statement.

The suspects had forged “ties to coordinate with some leaders” of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and were active in the central cities of Fes, Meknes, Taounate and Tiznit.

Their alleged group leader “planned to carry out a targeted terrorist operation” and was accused of “incitement to sabotage state institutions”.
