Amidst the saddening bloodshed that has plagued Egypt and took the lives of many innocent Egyptians, the world has become more concerned than ever about the fate of democracy and security in this nation.
While some International voices denounced the ouster of president Morsi, considering it a military coup with irreparable damages, many Egyptians made their point clear that the ouster of Morsi is ânot a military coup but rather the peopleâs desire against a failing regime.â
In this context, an online petition has recently been launched by a group of Egyptians, whose main goal is to prove that the ouster of Morsi was ânot a military coup but rather a necessary transition towards true democracy in Egypt.â
The purpose of this petition is to show support to the Egyptian army in the person of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, who âstood by the side of the Egyptian people and answered their demand, which is to ouster a president that was leading the nation towards the abyss,â reads the text of the petition.
By signing this petition, which has set 1.000.000 signers as its objective, supporters of the Egyptian army intend to prove that it is the people who initially urged the army to topple president Morsi.
âIt is a peopleâs coup, not a military coup,â reads a sentence on the same page.
The petition is apparently planned to be sent to the International Court of Justice as a strong proof against the claim that what happened in Egypt months ago was an undemocratic and an unconstitutional military coup.
At the time of writing this article, the petition has currently reached 108,244 signers. The signing rate on the petition page is around 1 signer/4seconds.
