Fourteen shop stewards have been dismissed at Sun City near Rustenburg, Sun International has said.

“After following due process, 14 shop stewards at Sun City complex had been dismissed,” spokeswoman Tamra Veley said.

She said the shop stewards concerned had chosen not to attend an independent disciplinary inquiry into misconduct. The hearing recommended they be dismissed.

The Congress of SA Trade Unions said the shop stewards were fired for raising ill-treatment and exposing racism at Sun City.

Moses Kotane branch secretary Madito Molebalwa said workers would strike to demand their reinstatement.

A march was planned for August 30 to demand their reinstatement and implementation of all outstanding agreements reached between Cosatu and Sun City.

“Cosatu will continue to target all main events at Sun City to picket and march until management heeds its call,” he said.
