KwaZulu-Natal premier Zweli Mkhize has resigned as premier of the province, he said today.
Last month, City Press reported the ANC’s KwaZulu-Natal leadership asked the national leadership for clarity on the fate of Premier Mkhize.
Denying they had decided to axe Mkhize as premier, ANC KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Senzo Mchunu said the ANC provincial working committee had discussed the two roles being performed by Mkhize, who was elected ANC treasurer general at the party’s conference in Mangaung in December.
They then wrote to the ANC NEC requesting clarity about whether or not Mkhize should move to Luthuli House ahead of the elections next year.
