Former Netball SA (NSA) president Ntambi Ravele is the new acting chairperson of the troubled Boxing SA (BSA) board.
This was announced by Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula during a media briefing held in Parliament yesterday.
“We have accepted the resignation of Mr Ngconde Balfour as the chairperson and member of the board of Boxing South Africa and we are further appointing Ms Ntambi Ravele as the acting chairperson of Boxing South Africa with immediate effect,” said Mbalula.
According to Mbalula, Ravele was the best candidate to take over temporarily as she “has been part of the board for years, she’s got a wealth of experience in sports and it’s also about women empowerment.”
He added the four members of the board would remain until after the boxing provincial indabas and the National Boxing Indaba and “I will in the coming days publish an invitation for nominations in order to fill the vacancies on the board”.
Dumile Mateza and Thabani Khumalo jumped ship last year before this year’s unexpected resignation of Balfour as head of the boxing regulator.
