Malawi Electoral Commissioner Bertha Simwaka resigns

The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) has announced the resignation of Dr Bertha Simwaka  as Commissioner of the Malawi Electoral Commission.

In a statement, Mec says President Joyce Banda has since accepted the resignation in accordance with Section 4(3) of the Electoral Commission Act.

Simwaka was appointed Commissioner on May 19, 2012 and has resigned on her own accord.

During her term with the Commission Simwaka served as member of the Media, Civic and Voter Education Committee as well as the Audit Committee. Simwaka also played a key role in the formulation of the Strategic Plan which was launched on June 14, 2013, further reads the Mec statement issued on Sunday and signed by Willie Kalonga, Mec Chief Election Officer.
