Nchalo Golf Club member Dr Alber Mkumbwa defied all odds to win Nico General Insurance Golf tournament played on individual stableford format held at Nchalo Golf Club on Saturday.
Mkumbwa made amends for unimpressive front nine performance in which he only managed 15 points carded 21 points back nine to beat his nearest rivals Harold Lungu and Henry Sisya who settled for second and third positions respectively.
Lungu, who is enjoying his game after going through a bad patch, scored 35 points while Sisya managed 34 points to seal off a podium position bracket.
In subsidiary prizes, Charles Merrick won the longest drive on with Patrick Kambwiri winning nearest to the pin award.
In the ladies category, Roza Mbilizi, added another trophy to her cabinet after emerging the champion with 29 points. Doreen Kavala, who has also been in winning mood of late, settled for second with 26 points and Zelda Merrick was on third.

In Nchalo Close competition, John Mphande Jnr won the crown with 35 points pushing his father John Mphande to second with 33 points and Ian Kambwiri’s 31 points took him to third position. Mkumbwa attributed his victory to the good conditions of the course.

“The prizes are fabulous and the trophies magnificent.”
A representative of Nchalo Golf Club Dan Sibale said Nico General Insurance Company had been supportive to the club.
