SA’s first music streaming service, Simfy Africa, turns one

It was a year ago this month that the music revolution arrived in South Africa. Simfy Africa launched in August 2012, bringing the latest music technology to our continent. The service, which offers access to 20 million tracks across a range of mobile devices, the web and a desktop player, has been very well received in South Africa.

It has been a whirlwind year for the Johannesburg based company. Over the past twelve months they have launched updated technology, from new mobile apps to updated features across all their platforms, to signing heaps of new local content and more.

“The one year mark is an important milestone for any company,” comments CEO Davin Mole. “The first year in a new territory is always a growing year, with product adjustments and improvements taking place. We are through this initial phase and now offer a vastly enhanced service, from our music selection to our new lower bandwidth options. We have had hundreds of suggestions from users, many of which we have already implemented, with lots more to come. This is only just the beginning.”

To celebrate the first year milestone with their fans, any user who streams more than 5 songs on the Simfy Birthday Weekend, 30 August – 1 September 2013, will be rewarded with a free month’s access to the service. The free month’s access will be credited to current account holders or added to trial accounts so anyone can benefit.

The user who streams the greatest number of songs during the Birthday Weekend will win a Samsung DA-F61 portable Bluetooth speaker to enhance their music listening experience whenever, wherever. In addition, random daily prizes will be drawn and offered to users who visit the Simfy Africa Facebook page between 20 – 31 August 2013.

Furthermore, Simfy Africa recently announced a partnership with Samsung, offering consumers who purchase any Samsung wireless audio product [Bluetooth enabled] three months FREE unlimited access to the Simfy Africa service. This special promotion runs to the 31 May 2014 for qualifying Samsung wireless and Bluetooth-enabled audio products including; Home Theatre Systems, AirTrack speaker systems, Mini Hifi Components Systems and Bluetooth speakers – available at all leading retailers and Samsung brand stores nationwide.

“Providing access to local content and ensuring we always provide value added offerings to our consumers is a business critical objective for us – creating a user experience that brings together product innovation and consumer lifestyle needs,” says Lance Berger, Head of Product Marketing at Samsung South Africa. “Our partnership with Simfy provides us the perfect opportunity to continue to demonstrate our comprehensive approach to market.”
