Six shortlisted for AG’s job

Nombembe Six shortlisted for AG’s job

An ad hoc committee of Parliament has agreed on a short list of six people to be interviewed by MPs for the position of Auditor-General (AG).

Committee chairperson Thaba Mufamadi said today that originally only 12 applications had been received after a deadline of August 2 for applications.

The committee decided to re-advertise the post to allow for more people to apply.

Subsequently, 90 applications were received, but only six were deemed qualified for the job.

They included current deputy AG Kimi Makwetu.

The other candidates are all chartered accountants who had held positions at the AG’s office, auditing firms, or other private companies.

They are Zaitun Bee Gaffair Shaik, Lily Zondo, Kaushic Patel, Josephine Naicker, and Avhashoni Ramikosi.

MPs will start interviewing the candidates next week Wednesday.

Current Auditor-General Terence Nombembe’s term of office expires at the end of November.
