I am ready to lead Safa – Danny Jordaan

Safa presidential nominee Danny Jordaan says he is ready to take the organisation to another level.

Speaking at a media briefing this afternoon, Jordaan, who is a Football Transformation Forum candidate, said his CV spoke a lot about what he could do for the organisation.

The Safa vice-president will come up against another vice-president, Mandla “Shoes” Mazibuko, in the September 29 elections for football’s hot seat.

“We need to restore pride in our football and this election will give us a chance to redeem ourselves. I am ready to lead and I am happy for the confidence shown in me by the regions which nominated me,” said Jordaan.

He said the Football Transformation Forum has also nominated Elvis Shisana, Lucas Nhlapo and Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana for the vice-president positions.

Jordaan said they would also push for three women candidates – Nomsa Mahlangu, Anastacia Tsichlas and Ria Ledwaba – to be voted in to the national executive.

“We need these women in the executive if we are serious about our football. Our female national team, Banyana Banyana, is the best team in the country as they have been to the Olympics and finished second in the CAF African Women Championships.”

The chief executive of the 2010 Fifa World Cup said they would push for the executive committee to be cut from 42 to at least 16 or 18 in 2016.

“Our executive is way too much and we need a reasonable number, but for now it is too late to change that. We need to channel our efforts towards development in our regions.”
