Another child-porn scandal rocks SA

A KwaZulu-Natal man who might be linked to one of the country’s largest child-sex rings has been arrested.

The Times reported that the man, a maintenance manager at luxury private game reserves and hotels, allegedly used his ‘adoptive’ son (21) to recruit children for pornography.

The son was reportedly adopted as a young boy, but no adoption papers can be provided.

It’s unsure if the man is connected to another international pornography ring where six people, including a teacher and a lawyer, were arrested in August.

A neighbour notified the police after discovering suspected child pornography on shared computer files via a shared Wi-Fi network, The Times reported.

Thousands of photographs and negatives, dating as far back as the 1970s, were seized at the suspect’s home.

Among these were images of the adoptive son being abused.

The photographs were allegedly taken at well-known places, including hotels and game farms.

A police source told The Times the files are so well-encrypted that uncovering the images is proving to be a very difficult task.

The suspect was released on R50 000 bail at the Durban Magistrates’ Court last week.
