PRETORIA (By Staff Reporter)– On the World Rhino Day, South African youth has stood up for national cause of holding rhino poaching in check by joining hands with government.
Thousands of children launched the march from Church Square to the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria to give a memorandum to the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa.
More than 10,000 children inked the memorandum in support of government’s seamless endeavors to work for the cause.
Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa has saluted the practical stance of youth for their engagement in eliminating the curse of rhino poaching. She said that rhino poaching was on rife around the world and global commitment was only way to phase out the freaky phenomenon.
“Rise of youth for the cause has made be proud. We and youth have teamed up to get rid of poaching issue.”
One child who participated the march said she expect that one day will come when she will be able to show her kids a live rhino. “If these poachers continue to kill rhino, the only site where these precious species to be seen will be inside the history books.”
So far, 688 rhino have been poached in South Africa this year, already surpassing last year’s total of 668.
