MTN8 Cup Soweto Derby: What you need to know about getting there

Orlando Pirates will host Kaizer Chiefs in the second leg of the MTN8 Cup semifinals at Orlando Stadium on Heritage Day.

Here’s what you need to know about road closures and transport arrangements.

Road closure schedule

» All roads will be closed at 9am and will be opened at 6pm

The following roads will be closed:

» Nkomoyathlaba traffic circle & Mooki Street

» Adams & Mofokeng

» Adams & Martha Louw

» Adams & Nzama

» Mooki & Rathebe

» Mooki & Masupa traffic circle

» Mooki & Rathebe

» Mooki & Court Exit

» Mooki & Armitage Street traffic circle

» Armitage & Klipvalley

» East of Klipvalley & Armitage

Public parking

» General secured parking will be available only at FNB Stadium. Parking will be sold at R10 via Computicket outlets.

» VVIP, VIP, media and hospitality parking will be in and around the stadium precinct. Tickets will be colour-coded accordingly.

» There will be no parking at Orlando Stadium for the general public.

Rea Vaya schedule

» Patrons will have to purchase the Rea Vaya transit tickets, which will be sold at the Rea Vaya Soccer City station.

The price for double-trip cards is R37. Single-trip cards are R25.

» Rea Vaya will operate from its stations along the Rea Vaya route and pick up and drop off fans at Orlando Stadium.

» The frequency of the service will be stepped up from the normal service to every five minutes, from Thokoza Park and from Ellis Park, at 12pm.

This service will be for both normal commuters and fans. Fans will also be picked up and dropped off at the Soccer City station along the Soweto Highway.

» Before and after the match, fans can use Rea Vaya between the Soccer City station and Orlando Stadium.

Fans will only be dropped at Rea Vaya stations along the BRT route.

» Last-bus times are estimates, which depend on the time the match finishes and the level of congestion along the route.

Gautrain shuttle service

» A minibus shuttle service to Orlando Stadium will start from the Gautrain Park Station, Johannesburg.

» The service will start operating from 12pm.

» The last shuttle before kickoff will leave at 2.30pm.

Drop off for the below destinations is at Mooki Street and Nkomo Ya Hlaba Street, next to Orlando East High School and Leresche Primary School

» Bree & Sauer

» Commissioner & Von Wielligh

» Kliptown Post Office taxi rank (Eldos)

Drop off for the below destinations is at the Orlando Stadium bus terminus

» Cross Road taxi rank

» Dube Station taxi rank


Rea Vaya

» Single-trip cards cost R25 and double-trip cards are R37.

» Normal distance-based smart cards will also be used as a means of payment to and from the soccer match.

Gautrain shuttle

» A return trip costs R40.


» Taxi fare will differ.


» Ticket fare is R20.
