Continuing with last year’s theme “Re-Defining Hospitality Industry in East & Central Africa”, the Kenya Hospitality Trade Fair will be held from 14-16 May, 2014 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi-Kenya, while the 2nd Hotel Summit East Africa, a conference organized in partnership with the Eastern Africa Economic Chambers of Commerce (EAECC) will be held from 15-16 May, 2014 at the same venue running under the theme “Moving on with Confidence”. The conference targets professionals in C-level management in the wider hospitality industry and discusses trends and issues that propel the hospitality industry in East & Central Africa. This year’s summit will focus on issues to do with Regional Integration, Finance for hospitality projects, Technology, Human Resources and Capacity building among other topical issues.

Under the ministry of Trade Industrialization, Co-operative Development, Tourism and Wildlife, the endorsement will provide the much needed synergy and capacity building to deliver a successful trade fair and conference.

Growing domestic demand, a strong corporate sector and the continued expansion of niche tourism are all fuelling development of the hotel industry, with global names eyeing the region as a key potential market.

With international tourist arrivals growing by 6% in the region for the second consecutive year, Africa is one of the fastest growing tourism regions in the world. Between 2000 and 2013, international tourist arrivals more than doubled (from 26 million to 56 million). By 2030, UNWTO forecasts this figure to reach 134 million. With this growth in tourist numbers, more investments will be undoubtedly required in the accommodation sector. KHTF is the forum to meet, interact and network with quality suppliers, financiers and other stakeholders who will help achieve these goals.

This endorsement comes after the Governor of Nairobi County; Dr. Evans Kidero officially opened the inaugural Kenya Hospitality Trade Fair on 25th July, 2013. Speaking during the opening ceremony, Dr. Kidero re-affirmed the commitment of the Nairobi City County to the hospitality industry and pledged that Nairobi County would support the businesses in the hospitality industry with a view to engage the industry at a deeper level.
