On demand from a growing fanbase to extend the reach of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF), espAfrika, has created a musical programme of four events – known as ‘The Summer Jazz Series’ – that will appeal to a broader target market and one that now extends beyond the confines of the city. Launched on 26 January with the inimitable Jimmy Dludlu, the Series has been warmly received. “I have been in this business a long time, but seeing everyone at the launch of the Paarl Summer Jazz Series engage as enthusiastically as they did, confirmed there is a whole new audience ready and waiting to embrace Jazz and that what we are doing, is right” commented Rashid Lombard the CEO of espAfrika.
Adam Samie, CEO of Lion of Africa Insurance Company is equally happy with the response from the public and the support from the artists. “While it is early days, the reaction to date has been extremely positive. The line-up is varied and appealing to a diverse audience and we are looking forward to seeing Jimmy Nevis perform who is certain to attract as enthusiastic an audience.”
Showcasing just how talented Capetonians are; the 21 year old Nevis will be supported by another 21 year old virtuoso, Matthew O’Connell, whose vocal skills and saxophone sounds are already legendary and whose unfettered energy is the perfect appetiser before Nevis begins his serenade and seduction of the Paarl crowd. Also on the lineup is DJ Suga from HeartFM who is sure to get the audience going.
The event is presented by Lion of Africa Insurance in association with Heart104.FM, Paarl Post and the South African Breweries.
