Dr. Mokgokong, Is A Role Model For Community Development & Leadership


Dr. Anna Mokgokong, is the Co-founder and Executive Chairperson of Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

Dr. Mokgokong established a private practice, which she grew from scratch to a patient base of 40,000.

She has also been Chairman of the Rebosis Property Fund Limited since April 11, 2011.

Born in Soweto about 56 years ago, and raised in Swaziland, Dr. Mokgokong is a South African businesswoman who has received international acclaim for her entrepreneurial abilities.

And as former President of the South African Women Entrepreneurs Network (SAWEN) and the International Women’s Forum of South Africa (IWFSA), she is a much sought-after public speaker with a keen interest in community development and women empowerment.

Dr. Mokgokong was inducted into the leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World, an independent, international network of the world’s powerful and successful female entrepreneurs in 1998. In addition, she is also the recipient of the prestigious SA Businesswoman of the Year Award 1999.

She used her medical training as a springboard into business, however, her scope of influence spans different industries. She sits on numerous boards of listed and unlisted companies locally and internationally. She is one of the founder members and Group Executive Chairperson of Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a leading Black empowerment company.

Dr Mokgokong has also served in academia and the public sector – having chaired the Council of the University of South Africa and served on the Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers, where she was the Deputy Chairperson. She was appointed to serve as a member of the Interim Defence Force Commission. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree (University of Botswana), an MBChB (Medunsa) and a Doctorate Honoris Causa Commerce (UNISA).

Her other achievements include Acting Chairman of Cape Resources Plc since August 2008.

She serves as the Chairman at Jasco Electronics Holdings Ltd; has been the Non-Executive Chairperson of Afrocentric Investment Corp.

Since September 10, 2012. Dr. Mokgokong has been serving as the Non-Executive Chairperson of Jasco Electronic Ventures Limited, Air Liquide Healthcare, and Tshwane International Convention Centre.

Dr. Mokgokong served as the Chairman of Unisa’s Council since 2002 and Member since 2000.

She also serves on the Boards and subsidiaries of the following companies: Malasela Taihan Electric Cable Pty Ltd (M-Tec), Community Healthcare Holdings (Pty) Ltd and subsidiaries, Conlog (Pty) Ltd, Nulec South Africa (Pty) Ltd, Malesela Transmission and Distribution (Pty) Ltd, CZ Electronics, MCT (Pty) Ltd, and Crossroads Ventures (Pty) Ltd.

Also, she has been a Director of Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd. since 2002. She has been a Director of Cape Resources Plc since June 11, 2007 and Afrocentric Investment Corp.

As of June 10, 2010. Dr. Mokgokong has been Director of Jasco Electronics Holdings Limited since joining in May 2003 and serves as Non-Executive Director of Community Investment Ventures.

She serves as Executive Director of Dartcom (Pty) Ltd. She has been an Independent Non-Executive Director at Shoprite Holdings Ltd since August 2012.

Others include, serving as Chairman of the Council of the University of South Africa. She served as a Member of the Interim Defence Force Commission. In 1994, she was elected Soroptimist Community Person of the Year and a year later was selected as a Delegate on President Nelson Mandela’s task team to visit Britain.

She served as Deputy Chairman of Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers.

In 2004, Dr. Mokgokong was appointed to serve as a Member of the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers.

Earlier In 1996, Dr. Mokgokong was a finalist in the Emergent Marketer of the Year awards.

An in 1997, she was a nominee for the Lebone Woman of the Year award and was honoured by Star Group of the United States as one of the 50 Leading Woman Entrepreneurs of the World in 1998 and 2002.

Dr. Mokgokong was South Africa’s Business Woman of the Year in 1999 and was invited to join the Women Leadership Board of the Harvard JF Kennedy Business School in Boston in 2002.
