Climate change, a threat to food security in Africa

The photo  taken in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, one of the oldest countries in Africa depicts how Africa is facing an impending threat from climate change.

The image taken in the early morning hours in the capital depicts heavy smog and  mist attributed by experts to climate change.

The country experiences annual normal rainfall between June and July, but during my visit in November 2013, its was experiencing unusual climatic shifts and  heavy rains. Ethiopia is also on record for having experienced one of the worst famines in Africa’s history. The photo series highlights the challenge facing Africa and its need to implement climate change adaptation mechanisms, resilience and mitigation initiatives to increase food supply and reduce hunger.
