Perspectives on training for South Africa’s construction sector

An allocation of about R1tn has been for the Strategic Infrastruc­ture Projects (SIPs) in South Africa – which includes the building of roads, schools, univer­sities, harbours, power stations and other key infrastructure projects. The lack of skills and adequate training in the building and con­struction industry, how­ever, is going to hinder development of these ambitious infrastruc­ture projects and will certainly increase implementation costs. South Africa has experienced a shortage of about 50,000 artisans in the past few years. At the same time, the construction of mega projects has made the challenges for the industry even more demanding and complex. read more

FAO et UE aident les petits agriculteurs du Zimbabwe à renforcer la productivité et la commercialisation / 19 millions de dollars pour soutenir irrigation et production animale

HARARE, Zimbabwe, 6 mars 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ L’Union européenne (UE), l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture (FAO) et le Gouvernement du Zimbabwe ont lancé un vaste programme visant à aider les petits agriculteurs à accroître la production et la productivité et à s’engager dans l’agriculture commerciale par des approches intégrées. Le programme quadriennal, doté d’une enveloppe de 19 millions de dollars (13,78 millions d’euros) sera administré par la FAO et ciblera en particulier les activités de soutien à l’irrigation et à la production animale.
