On October 1, African design will be thrust into the digital realm with the launch of an interactive online architecture and design magazine aimed at the African continent; African Design Magazine. “We are not a print magazine that has moved into the online space, we are people who have moved our passion and knowledge for niche communication into the digital arena,” says editor Gregg Cocking.
The magazine will be emailed to a database of close to 10 000 African architects, designers and construction industry professionals. “Our focus will be on the African architect and designer, showcasing their work and sharing ideas and innovations and encouraging and interaction with professionals throughout Africa. Our entrenched position in the design industry in South Africa means that we can supply up-to-date and professional information which will ensure that African Design Magazine is the first port of call for local and international readers who want to know more about African design,” notes Cocking.
When compared to static print publications, African Design Magazine is a totally ‘different animal’ – it will be fully interactive and readers can click on links, watch videos and truly interact with the content. The magazine will have a dedicated website which will be updated daily with the latest news relevant to the African design and architecture industry, and professionals will also be able to upload their projects to the website for peer commentary. Apart from the website, the magazine will also be available on the African Design Magazine Facebook page, Twitter feeds and Joomags.com where it can be viewed by the millions of readers who visit the magazines on their virtual ‘newsstand’ every month.
African Design Magazine will be fully compatible with smartphones and tablets offering architects and designers a visual and interactive feast on-the-go.
“We are confident that African Design Magazine will push the boundaries in this exciting online arena and we’re looking forward to working with advertisers who understand the value we can add to their paid online media campaigns,” concludes Cocking.
