Home to about 246 million people, the mobile penetration rate in Eastern Africa ranges from 5% in Eritrea to 40% in Kenya. Its subscription base grew by 21% since 2008 and is projected to grow annually at a rate of 8% for the next five years. Subsequently, the use of smartphones increased and is also projected to account for 4 of every 10 connections by 2020. Although the region will remain heavily focused on 2G services, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya have witnessed the launch of the 4G.
Ethiopia ranks eight of the top ten countries for chain hotel developments in pipeline with 1,326 rooms, according to the W Hospitality Group 2015 survey. At present, Ethiopia has only three brand hotels – Hilton, Sheraton and Radisson Blu. This puts the country ahead of Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti which have no brand hotels under pipeline.

South Afriican satellite company signs landmark deal with China’s only commercial satellite operator
Space Commercial Service Holdings (SCSH) South Africa’s biggest private satellite company specializing in small satellite assembly, integration and global information services just signed a landmark agreement with the Beijing-based Twenty First Century Aerospace Technology (21AT) China’s only earth observation commercial satellite operator.
