This Month’s Africa Mini Grids Summit to Focus on Practical implementation Issues in the Electrification of Africa
Nairobi, Kenya –1 November 2015 – The 2nd Africa Mini Grids Summit 2015 will convene this month on November 18-20 in Nairobi, Kenya. This Africa-wide conference will gather key decision and policy makers along with the power players in the mini grids sector to share their invaluable expertise and experience in providing for the continent’s rapidly-increasing power requirements.
Philip Morris International (PMI) (pmi.com), the largest buyer of tobacco in Tanzania, is ramping up efforts to implement its Sustainable Tobacco Production model among the nation’s 65 000 contracted tobacco-growing families.
Seychelles was represented at the Meeting of Foreign Ministers ahead of the India-Africa Summit on 27th October by Ambassador Barry Faure, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, standing in for Foreign Minister Joël Morgan. Ambassador Faure, delivering Seychelles’ statement at the meeting which was highly attended, said: “This Third India-Africa Summit is an opportunity for us to jointly assess achievements, scrutinize problematic areas and map out new avenues in which to build the India-Africa Partnership and the implementation of the newly-revised Africa-India Framework of Cooperation. This new framework of cooperation is timely in that it has allowed us the opportunity to refocus our collaborative efforts on key areas of our African development aspirations, articulated through the Agenda 2063, to areas where India enjoys a unique position of expertise and comparative advantage.”
Mozambique: Economic activity in 2015 has remained solid, though new challenges have emerged and require decisive policy action
A staff team from the International Monetary Fund, led by Michel Lazare, visited Mozambique during October 14-28, 2015 to complete discussions towards the completion of the fifth review under the three-year Policy Support Instrument (PSI) approved in June 2013 (see Press Release No. 13/231) and under the 2015 Article IV Consultation, and reach understandings on a new program to be supported under the IMF’s Stand-by Credit Facility (SCF).
