Operational excellence and a focus on high-value niche segments provide hope for Africa’s failing MVNO environment

Despite the strong growth of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) globally, the majority of MVNO efforts in Africa to date have been unsuccessful despite happening in countries offering favourable market conditions and plentiful opportunities. That’s according to new insights from global IT market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC), whose latest report shows that while the number of MVNOs has increased globally in recent years, the trend remains in its infancy in Africa, with the continent playing host to less than 1% of the world’s 1,000 MVNOs. read more

On 14 December 2015, Egypt notified the WTO’s Committee on Safeguards that it initiated on 8 December 2015 a safeguard investigation on Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). The notice of initiation by the investigating authority was published in the Official Gazette on 10 December 2015. read more

IMF Staff Completes Review Mission to Guinea

An IMF mission led by Abdoul Aziz Wane visited Conakry during December 2-15, 2015, to conduct discussions on the sixth and seventh reviews of the authorities program supported by an arrangement under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF).[1]The IMF Executive Board approved the arrangement for Guinea on February 24, 2012 for SDR 128.52 million, about US$ 200 million (see Press Release No. 12/57). read more

IMF Executive Board Completes Second Review under the Extended Credit Facility Arrangement for Chad and Approves US$28.7 Million Disbursement

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today completed the second review of Chad’s economic performance under the program supported by an Extended Credit Facility (ECF)1 arrangement. Completion of the review enables the immediate disbursement of the equivalent of SDR 20.65 million (about US$28.7 million). This brings total disbursements under the arrangement to the equivalent of SDR 53.93 million (about US$75.1 million). read more

Une mission du FMI conduite par M. Abdoul Aziz Wane a visité Conakry du 2 au 15 décembre 2015 afin de mener les discussions sur la sixième et septième revues du programme appuyé par un accord dans le cadre de la Facilité Élargie de Crédit (FEC)1. Le Conseil d’administration du FMI a approuvé cet accord pour la Guinée le 24 février 2012 pour un montant de 128,52 millions de DTS, soit environ 200 millions de dollars EU (voir Communiqué de presse No. 12/57). read more
