More than 30 of the top officials and industry leaders in Zambia will congregate at this year’s Copperbelt Mining Trade Expo and Conference (CBM-TEC) later this week. Top Zambian officials will join with local and international mining leaders to attend and speak at the nation’s premier networking event in the heart of the Zambian Copperbelt. HRH Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi, the King of the Royal Bafokeng Nation in South Africa, will present a keynote address about the example of Royal Bafokeng Holdings as a case study for community empowerment through the harnessing of mineral resources, and offer important insights into how local communities can benefit from mining and foreign investment.
Other top officials attending and speaking at CBM-TEC include Hon. Christopher Yaluma, MP, Minister of Mines and Mineral Development in Zambia; Hon. Margaret Manakatwe, MP, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry in Zambia; President of the Zambian Chamber of Mines Mr Nathan Chishimba; and Alfred Mwila, Director of Economic Regulation, Energy Regulatory Board in Zambia. Other speakers include the leaders of local and international mining companies, financial institutions and industry associations.
Conference organisers have put together a comprehensive conference programme that will be challenging delegates with innovative thinking and strategy. “Leading local and regional speakers will be driving forward solutions for putting the Zambian economy back on track; proposing viable short and medium term solutions for Zambia’s power supply obstacles; looking at ways of creating an enabling environment to attract investment; and providing insight into accessing financial support across the mining value chain,” says event director of CBM-TEC Nicole Smith. “It’s going to be an interesting and valuable two days for all delegates.”
Free to attend technical workshops
CBM-TEC also has a number of free to attend technical workshops running alongside the show for mine managers, engineers and technical mining personnel. The workshops will equip mine operators on the latest technologies and cutting-edge solutions helping them stay ahead of the pack and run sustainable, productive operations. Workshop topics include Mine Management Systems, which will introduce mine personnel to leading service providers and engineers with extensive experience in the Zambian and African markets. Cost Optimisation is another workshop theme which will provide mines with best practices in maintaining efficient operations during a down cycle. This session will focus on the critical lean practices that can help all role players on the mine to perform at optimum, while adjusting to industry constraints in current market conditions.
