Significant ER project in Rwanda
STEG-IS is a leading international engineering, construction, and technical services provider for public and private sector companies, and is a subsidiary of the Tunisian state-owned Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) which has successfully succeeded in its mission mainly the electrification of the country. Tunisia is one of the few countries in the African continent where the rural electrification rate has reached more than 99%, as against 6% in 1976.
STEG-IS has been active in Rwanda for some time says General Manager, Mr Mohamed Ammar. He explains: “apart from the Middle East, STEG-IS is present in several African countries. The main activities performed include but not limited to: project planning, studies, network development, control and supervision of construction works, Rural Electrification ER projects (EPC) in Tanzania, Senegal, Cameroun, Sierra Leone and Congo”.
He adds: “however, it should be noted that the most significant ER project performed by STEG-IS was Rwanda ER PROJECT regarding the electrification of six districts of the Eastern Province of Rwanda for the connection of 55,000 households and the construction of a medium and low-voltage distribution network and a major program of support, training and capacity building of the Rwandan Electricity Company EWSA.”
During iPAD Rwanda, STEG-IS’s Deputy General Manager, Mr Jamil Korked, will moderate one of the Project Roundtable Discussions on the conference programme with the focus on: “The benefits of adopting a MALT system: STEG International’s Rural Electrification case-study”.
STEG-IS the right partner
“We are thrilled to have a company of STEG-IS’s reputation and experience on board again as the platinum sponsor for iPAD Rwanda,” says event director Evan Schiff. He adds: “They are the right partner as the company has done a lot of business in Rwanda and they talk from experience. We will showcase the enormous investment opportunities in the country’s power and infrastructure sectors and the Kigali government has proven that it can provide a stable and investor-friendly business climate. STEG-IS is a great example of this.”
iPAD Rwanda is organised by Spintelligent, leading Cape Town-based trade exhibition and conference organiser, and the African office of Clarion Events Ltd, based in the UK. Other flagship events in Spintelligent’s power portfolio on the continent are African Utility Week, the West African Power Industry Convention (WAPIC), East African Power Industry Convention (EAPIC) and iPAD Cameroon Energy & Infrastructure Forum.
